UNSW partnership with Gondwana Choirs
UNSW’s exciting partnership with Gondwana Choirs continues with next year’s Gondwana National Choral School, which will be hosted at the Kensington campus for the second time in January 2018. Choristers, conductors and composers can apply for the program until 11 August, 2017.
From 8 to 21 January, the various ensembles will rehearse in a range of outstanding venues across the campus, with participants housed in the recently rebuilt Kensington Colleges. In addition to public concerts in the Sir John Clancy Auditorium, choristers will participate in a range of special performance projects from Indonesian dance and Taikoz drumming to music of the classical period and musical theatre.
Alongside the singers, Gondwana Composer and Conductor Schools present unique opportunities for emerging composers and conductors to develop their craft. There are also internship opportunities on the operations team for aspiring arts administrators.
The partnership engages several units within UNSW, including Venues and Events, the colleges of UNSW Student Accommodation, School of the Arts and Media in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and of course the Music Performance Unit. Even in the hottest weather which Sydney could muster, the National Choral School was a great success at UNSW in 2017, and we look forward to 2018.
