Sonia Maddock has been Choral Director since 2003, following the retirement of the founding Choral Director, Dr Patricia Brown. She has sung with many choirs, including both the Collegium Musicum Choir and Burgundian Consort which she now directs. In her time as Choral Director at UNSW, Sonia has conducted large scale works including oratorios of Handel (Messiah, Samson, Alexander's Feast, Solomon, and Israel in Egypt), Mozart's Requiem, Orff's Carmina Burana, several masses of Haydn, Mozart, Liszt, Kodaly, Bernstein, Vaughan Williams, Bach, Pärt, Schubert and Dvorak, and major works of Vivaldi, Britten, Saint-Saens and Tippett. Chamber choir works have included Copland's In the Beginning, Britten's Sacred and Profane and Five Flower Songs, Wesley-Smith's Who Killed Cock Robin?, Debussy's Trois Chansons de Charles d'Orleans, Hindemith's Six Chansons and Jackson's Not no faceless angel. The annual Christmas program, A Festival of Carols, has provided opportunity for young soloists as well as the broader community to join in the choral experience at UNSW.
