Handel Coronation Anthems and Mozart Requiem
In the first program of 2017, the Collegium Musicum Choir will be tackling some great masterpieces of the choral repertory, from great jubilation to sombre reflection. Handel's four Coronation Anthems were written in 1727 for George II and Queen Caroline, and have been performed at all subsequent British coronations. Zadok the Priest is one of the greatest openings of the choral repertoire, but the delights continue with Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened, The King Shall Rejoice, and lastly, My Heart is Inditing. A change of mood comes with Mozart's final work, his magnificent Requiem, in the controversial completion by Sussmayr. The gravity of this work and magnificence of each individual movement will be a delight for singers and audience alike.
