The UNSW Orchestra presents its final concert of the year with two of the most beloved and emotionally powerful works in the orchestral repertoire. Revealing the rich lyricism, sweeping melodies, and dramatic passion of the Russian Romantic tradition, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 “Pathétique” explore the heights of beauty, emotion, and human expression. Rachmaninoff’s concerto is a triumphant work filled with soaring melodies, and moments of intimate tenderness. Its enduring popularity has made it one of the most cherished concertos ever composed. Tchaikovsky’s final symphony offers a deeply personal musical journey, moving from moments of drama and exhilaration to extraordinary vulnerability and reflection.
