From cartoon rhumbas to romantic waltzes, the UNSW Orchestra will have you swaying in your seat throughout the energetic program of Perpetuum Mobile!
The evening opens with Koehne’s neo-classical masterpiece Powerhouse, which has been critically applauded for bridging the gap between classical tradition and popular culture through his ironic exploration of an orchestral rhumba.
We are then very excited to present Mendelssohn’s beloved and lyrically brilliant Violin Concerto in E minor which will showcase the technical virtuosity of UNSW violinist and soloist Zoe Walton.
Rachmaninoff brings the evening to a close with the lush orchestration and soaring melodies of Symphonic Dances, which is highlighted by a uniquely off balance and resultingly eerie waltz, and a harking to the Russian Orthodox ‘Dies irae’ chant for the dead.
It will be an evening of unbridled entertainment, drama and delight, which you will not want to miss!
