The annual A Cappella Academy, expertly led by Academy Director Timothy Wayne Wright, alongside UNSW Choral Director Sonia Maddock, was a enormous success.
The UNSW choral groups Corde and Vocallective, came together to work on new and existing material, and improve their skills and techniques in choral singing.
Some testimonials from participants:
Daniel Shieff:
Tim is an inspiration! He brings a huge depth of knowledge to every rehearsal we have had with him in the A Cappella Academy, and his understanding of colour, phrasing, and musicality is second to none. What stands out most about Tim is his ability to connect that artistry with strong, healthy vocal technique. He constantly reminds us of the importance of resonance, balanced tone, and the power of an engaged sound. As a newly formed baritenor, I have learned how to project with greater strength and clarity, giving a solid, steady, and controlled foundation to any ensemble I am part of.
Working with Tim as a member of the UNSW Corde Consort quartet has been an incredible experience. The lessons I have learned from him extend far beyond the quartet, shaping the way I sing in larger choral groups and even in my solo singing work. His guidance has genuinely nuanced the way I approach music as a whole, and for that I am very grateful!
Lisa Chao:
It was such a wonderful experience being a part of A Cappella Academy. As a singer, I've learned so much about vows and resonance skills, which helped me find my voice. And I feel truly fortunate for the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and grow with this talented group of people.
