ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Alex Yuen

Born in Hong Kong, Alex began piano lessons at the age of six, but it was the French horn that truly captured his interest when he was eight. Inspired by the opportunity to join his school’s wind symphony, he soon discovered a passion for the horn’s warm, versatile tone—blending effortlessly with both woodwinds and brass.

Alex studied with Edmond Fong (Former Assistant Principal Horn - Hong Kong Sinfonietta) and later with Rachel Silver (Horn player - Sydney Symphony Orchestra). As a student musician, he has been a member of the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra, the UNSW Wind Symphony, and the UNSW Orchestra, gaining experience in both symphonic and wind ensemble settings.

Alongside his musical pursuits, Alex finds joy and balance in swimming, which helps him recharge outside of rehearsals. He continues to explore new repertoire and performance opportunities, driven by his deep appreciation for ensemble music-making.

Brian Ee

Brian Ee is a clarinettist and bass clarinettist, is a PhD student in the School of Biomedical Sciences at UNSW, where his research focusses on enzyme biochemistry and biosensors. Brian completed a Bachelor’s of Advanced Science (Hons)/Arts at UNSW in 2020, in which he majored in Microbiology and Music Studies, and studied clarinet with Margery Smith and Jason Noble. Brian has played with the UNSW Wind Symphony and Orchestra since 2015, and was the concertmaster of the UNSW Wind Symphony from 2016 to 2018. He was also the Wind Symphony Vice President and President of the Society of Orchestra and Pipers (SOAP) in 2018, and also performs with the Western Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Harrison Pritchard

Harry has played music for the first time at quite a young age. In High School, he attended the music program introduction night with a bit of family encouragement, and was pleasantly surprised to hear the Bassoon tutor play the Sorcerer’s Apprentice tune – one that his grandfather would often play on his sound system. Between that, the clacky and complicated keywork, and the great resonance of the instrument, he was quite impressed. Harry played Bassoon in a few different music groups in high school, including the inter-school Arts Unit ensembles, and was very excited to join the ensembles at university, where he has played since. Tuesday afternoon rehearsals have become a very normal part of his routine since, and aside from the regular LIME concerts, he is sometimes lucky enough to have the occasional call-in gig with another group – some with Willoughby Symphony, sometimes North Sydney Symphony, and even once with Bankstown Theatre.

Calder Yeung

A student in the Engineering/Computer Science program at UNSW, Calder views music as an essential part of his university life. Music has been one of his main hobbies for most of his life. For Calder, performing is all about the thrill of sharing the music with others. He loves the thrill of being on stage and showcasing the love and effort for the music that he performs.
