We are thrilled to announce Sarah Birrell as the Patricia Brown Choral Scholar for 2026.
Sarah is a third-year student at UNSW currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/ Education (Secondary) and double-majoring in History and Theatre & Performance Studies. She joined the Collegium Musicum Choir in her first year and has been an enthusiastic member ever since. She also became a member of Corde in 2026. When she is not choralling, Sarah is on the executive of the New South Wales Uni Theatrical Society (NUTS) and is serving as the Arc Delegate and Co-Welfare Officer.
A note from Sarah:
Singing in choirs, and singing in general, have been a large part of my identity as a musician. Having my contributions acknowledged through a scholarship is something I didn't realise was possible before attending UNSW.
Receiving the Patricia Brown Scholarship is something I believe will be the highlight and pride of my university career. It is an honour and a privilege to be awarded such an opportunity to continue developing my musicianship and choral skills and aid those around me in doing the same.
I hope to take what I learn into my future career as a specialised special and inclusive education teacher.
Supported by the generosity of the family of founding Choral Director at UNSW, Dr Patricia Brown, this scholarship awards Sarah with $5,000 and a leadership role in the Collegium Musicum Choir.
