Every year, UNSW Orchestra offers UNSW students the opportunity to audition to perform a Concerto with the ensemble. 

In 2026 two talented students have been selected, Owen Jiang and Juliette Roumanoff.

Owen Jiang 
RACHMANINOFF Piano Concerto No.2

Owen Jiang is a young Australian-born pianist and began his piano studies at the age of five. In 2014, Owen won his first gold medal on his debut at the Sydney Eisteddfod at the age of nine and began studying piano performance under the tutelage of Peter Wang shortly thereafter. At the age of 12, Owen made his debut at the Sydney Opera House after being selected to perform as a soloist in the Festival of Choral Music in 2017. In the same year, he was also awarded a full music scholarship to study at Knox Grammar School, one of Sydney's leading independent schools.

In 2019, Owen received his Licentiate of Music Australia (LMusA) with Distinction and was later awarded a Fellowship Diploma for Piano Recital (FTCL) during his penultimate year of secondary education, presenting a recital programme featuring works by Liszt, Beethoven, and Horowitz.

Owen is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and Finance at the University of New South Wales and is preparing for his concerto debut with the UNSW Orchestra on Friday 20 November 2026 at Sir John Clancy Auditorium.

Owen will be performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2 at the final concert of the year - to be announced. 

Juliette Roumanoff 
LALO Cello Concerto in D minor 

Juliette started off as a cellist, singer and french horn player before focusing on cello, studying with teachers in both France and Australia. She has been a member of the Rising Stars program at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and attended the Conservatorium High School, graduating last year.

She is now studying a degree of Advanced Computer Science at UNSW and remains a part of SYO’s flagship orchestra among other musical commitments. Juliette is delighted to have been offered the opportunity of performing with the UNSW Orchestra under the baton of Steven Hillinger, and hopes to make the most of the musical experience UNSW offers throughout the rest of her degree.
