Cultural Neighbourhood Pavers Project
We invite students from Nura Gili to submit design proposals for bespoke pave
rs to be installed in the refreshed courtyard of the D14 Cultural Neighbourhood around the White House and Fig Tree Theatre, run by UNSW Estate Management with partners Yerrabingen.
The creators of the selected designs will be awarded $1000 for ongoing use of the design image on professionally manufactured and installed pavers.
The brief for the project is available here, prepared by Yerrabingen to give some ideas about how your design might be incorporated into the landscape. This is open to individuals or groups of Nura Gili students working together to develop a design idea.
Your idea can be as simple as a hand drawing or as fancy as you like, as long as it meets the brief. The design should initially be submitted as a JPEG or PDF with a maximum file size of 10MB. If your design or artwork is selected, we will help you to produce artwork in a format useable for reproduction into the paving design.
All submissions will be considered by a panel of experts and stakeholders to select the work they believe to be the most original, excellent, and engaging response to the location and its themes. This is a great opportunity to have student work embedded in our busy campus, to have a say in the look of the shared courtyard space, and to gain valuable experience.
Submission requirements:
• The competition is open to all current Nura Gili UNSW students.
• To access the online entry form, you need to be logged in using your zID.
• Entrants may submit as individuals or as a group of students.
• You are encouraged to respond to the brief in a creative way with a great story about the design.
• Consider the viability of the design as an imprint in a durable paver.
• Submit your concept as a JPEG or PDF with a maximum file size of 10MB by 9am Thursday 9 July 2026 through this link.
Student entrants will be required to indicate that the design is their own work for which they hold intellectual property and copyright. Disclosure of use of AI will be required at the time of submission.
Our panel of experts and stakeholders will choose the selected submissions by the end of July 2026.
We will award $1000 for ongoing use of the design image on professionally manufactured and installed pavers. The creator of selected designs will be offered the opportunity to be included in the professional installation of the work at a time scheduled by UNSW.
