Did you catch David Griffiths’ recent performances in Queenstown?

We spoke to Steve Polydorou of Hayllar Music Tours that recently presented Music & Mountains Festival in beautiful Queenstown, New Zealand.

Tour patrons experienced eight exclusive performances with gala concerts overlooking the spectacular scenery of Lake Wakatipu. Joining David in concert and in artist conversations were musicians Helen Ayres, Emily Sun, Jacqui Cronin, Timothy Nankervis Anna Goldsworthy, and Kontantin Shamray (pictured). David performed a mix of repertoire over the six days including Piazzolla Oblivion for clarinet and string quartet which you will hear in August in our series, Mozart Clarinet Quintet, K. 581 which you heard at our first concert of the year, and the poignant Messiaen Quartet for the End of Time. David’s performance of Weber’s Grand Duo Concertant and John Novacek’s barnstorming Four Rags for Two Jons with Konstantin Shamray went down a treat with the guests! This was performed at one of the morning concerts. The tour closed with the wildly exuberant Holly Harrison’s Spitfire.

Hayllar Music Tours is led by UNSW alumni, Director Elizabeth Hayllar. Elizabeth is offering a smorgasbord of upcoming tours including internationally acclaimed violinist Maxim Vengerov in Sydney in August, who celebrates his 50th birthday this year; and a tour to Tasmania for the Chamber Music Festival in November where you will be able to see Kristian Winther, and Anna da Silva Chen perform alongside acclaimed peers. Kristian and Anna are guest artists in this year’s Australia Ensemble UNSW season.
